My portfolio of paintings created from paper pulp and organic materials.
The Paper Pulp Process
The unique process for my fiber (paper pulp) painting was developed by me a few years ago. The paintings are created on a screen with handmade and hand dyed wet paper pulp made from abaca and cotton fiber. Organic elements are added as the artwork is created. There is no glue or other adhesive involved in this process. Pastel, watercolor or ink may be applied while the work is in progress. Once finished the piece is left to dry on the screen and then is removed and adhered to a matboard or canvas backing. All of the paintings are framed in a deep wooden frame with an acrylic glazing except for the untitled piece which is framed under glass in a thin black frame.
The paintings on this page have been included in numerous jury exhibitions throughout New England. They available for purchase on my website: Kathleen Daughan Fine Art
Most of the paintings on this page are framed in 1 1/2" - 2" deep frames depending on the thickness of the artwork. The frames are handsome custom made wood oak frames that set off the work beautifully. See photo above.
The landscape is my primary studio so long as the weather allows. When it doesn't I enjoy painting still life and memory pieces in my studio at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, Mass. I'm lucky enough to have opportunites to paint in northern California in addition to my work in Maine and New Hampshire. I work in oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel depending. I am also a paper maker and sometimes work with paper pulp as a medium. I am a member of Plein Air Painters of Maine and N.H. Plein Air Painters.
